Call On Duty

An interesting event that occured this month was the recent ban on the airing of the UK television spot for Call Of Duty 2 by the UK Advertising Standards Agency, on the grounds of misleading consumers with pre-rendered graphics. This case is important in light of the controversy surrounding last year’s E3 pre-rendered screenings of PS3 Killzone 2, which were wildly claimed to be in-game by ill-informed Sony spokespersons.

Advertisements for multi-platform games are already required to display the platform on which the game is running – perhaps it should also be mandatory to highlight which shots are in-game (already proudly practised by games that believe themselves to be comparable to pre-rendered visuals) and which are not.
