A Storm Is Brewing

Though he despises sites that do this, the alsoran musty concede to join the ranks of those that post about not posting. For the last several months his current project has been taking precedence over all artistic endeavours. Very soon, however, that is all set to change as he pursues a new challenge in the next stage of his North-American adventure. Expect gameanim.com to become reborn soon…

Those Who Can, Do

Recently found this listed on Amazon. You would be surprised to learn that this is not in fact a 1980 Sinclair Spectrum do-it-yourself coding book but actually a relatively recent release. Is this really where the games industry still learns it’s trade? The cover alone harks back to pre Tin-Toy rendering and character design, causing the alsoran to be rightly dubious about the knowledge imparted inside.

If videogame animation is to be taken seriously as an art-form we really require that someone at least vet what information is shared with the public, and the nature in which it is displayed. The widespread availability of student versions of popular 3D packages like Maya PLE has once again brought homebrew videogame animation creation (and learning) to the masses in the same manner in which the alsoran himself began over a decade ago, but we must back this up with a solid understanding of some of the subtler nuances and videogame-specific rules to be applied.
