Tom And Jerry Animation Studies

Last month saw the 20th anniversary of my first ever game release: Tom & Jerry in War of the Whiskers. With gameplay based on Capcom’s Power Stone, it certainly didn’t move the needle but was a great animation-heavy project to begin learning the trade.

We were fortunate to have access to every episode from the Hanna-Barbera era and lifted many characters and moves. Here are some studies of the show (before the days when you could just find everything online).

Sadly we weren’t able to get this much squash and stretch – to be honest I didn’t even know what a rig was back then, instead animating directly on the joints in Maya!
